I love people who honor their dangerous truths + cultivate the qualities that sent them to the fringe. History is dotted with many of these renegades. Their influence began long before their cultural death and will end long after their physical deaths. Mignon McLaughlin, one of my favorite fringed citizens, once wrote: «Every society honors its live conformists and its dead troublemakers.» As someone whose only home has been the fringe, I like to think these historical greats and I share a few strands of cosmic DNA. I believe the only ancestry that matters occurs at the genetics of my spirit rather than the genetics of my body. And so in that sense, these creators are my neighbors. These people are the great purveyors.
